After
graduating from Rising Sun High School, Lane attended Ball State
University where he was on the Dean's list and received the History
Department Award. In 1983, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in
finance and economics and began his professional career by working in
the banking industry in Vevay. Lane later went on to receive his Doctor
of Jurisprudence from Indiana University-Indianapolis in 1990. He is a
Member of the Dearborn and Ohio County Bar Association, the Indiana
State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association
While
attending Ball State University, Lane met his wife, Robin Bingham.
Robin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and is a
staff nurse in the nursery at St. Luke Hospital in Florence, Kentucky.
Married
for 26 years, Lane and Robin have three children. The oldest, Allison
and Brenden, are fraternal twins and seniors at Rising Sun High School.
Caroline, their youngest, attends the third grade at Ohio County
Elementary School. The family resides in Rising Sun and belongs to the
First United Church of Christ, where Lane has served as a former Elder,
Deacon and Consistory President.
Lane
has practiced law in southeastern Indiana since 1991. He is also the
City Attorney for Rising Sun and is an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech
Community College. In addition, Lane serves as legal counsel to the
Ohio County Port Authority, Ohio County Tourism and the Rising Sun
Redevelopment Commission.
While
finishing law school, Lane ran for State Senate (District 43) in 1990.
Although this bid for office was unsuccessful, the experience left a
lasting impression on him. As a result, Lane remained active in the
local Democratic party and has volunteered his time to several
candidates. He returned to the political arena in 2006 as the
Democratic nominee for State Senate in District 43.
An
active member in his community, Lane is the president of the Rising
Sun-Ohio County Chamber of Commerce and the chairman of the Economic
Restructuring Committee for Historic Downtown Rising Sun. He is also a
member of the local Arts Council, Shiner Pride Band Boosters and the
Rising Sun Rotary Club, where he has previously served as president. He
is also a former member of the Vevay Kiwanis Club. From 2000 to 2005,
Lane sat on the board of directors for the Dearborn County Hospital
Foundation.
